INTRODUCTION:
Pieces of Music Games Version 1.0 for Windows works best on
multimedia systems; however, the games can be played on systems
that do not have multimedia capability. The software requires a
mouse, Windows 3.1 or 95, 486/better, VGA/better. This software
package consists of 3 different educational games. Though each
game is different, all 3 are designed to work together to help the
player learn the names of music symbols. An extra bonus of this set
of games is that they are fun and challenging to play even after
the player has learned the names of all the music symbols.
For best educational results, the games should be played in the
order they are listed on the title screen. The player can
begin playing the Music Matching game until he feels he has
become familiar with the names of the symbols. Then he can move
on to the Music Bingo game where he can see if he is able to pick
out the symbols from a group of symbols when one is named.
Finally the most difficult game of the three is the Music Missing.
The player can see if he can pick from a list of symbol names the
name of a symbol that has disappeared from a group of symbols.
This last game does not identify the symbols by voice as the
other 2 games do.
DIFFICULTY OF PLAY:
From the title screen you can set the difficulty of play. There are
two options: Advanced and Beginner. The only difference between
these two options is the number of game play selections you are
allowed. For example, when playing the bingo game at the beginner
level, the game will make up to 35 bingo calls for the player
to get 4 in a row to win. In the advanced level game, the game will
make only 19 bingo calls before the game ends.
GAME INSTRUCTIONS:
Each game has a button labeled Instructions. Clicking these buttons
will give basic instructions on how to play the game that is being
run. These same instructions are given below.
MUSIC MATCHING INSTRUCTIONS:
A mouse is required to play. A sound card is recommended but not
required. The object of the Music Matching game is to match the 8
pairs of music symbols before you run out of selections. To begin
game play, click 2 of the red squares on the game board grid. If the
2 do not match, click the large button labeled New Selection. The
symbols that you selected and that did not match will be covered
over. Select 2 more. If the symbols match, you can select 2 more
without clicking the New Selection button. Play continues in this
way until you match all 8 pairs or you run out of allowed
selections.
To the left of your screen you will notice the Options. The default
uses both text and voice to call the symbols. If you do not have a
sound card, use only the text option. This will increase program
speed. If you use the voice option, be sure and let the game finish
calling the color and symbol before you click a new symbol or the
New Selection button.
One final note: When the number of selections decreases to 1, game
play will continue past 0 as long as the symbols selected continue
to match. When the game is over, click the Restart Game button to
play again or the Quit Game button to exit.
MUSIC BINGO INSTRUCTIONS:
A mouse is required to play. A sound card is recommended but not
required.
As the name suggests, the game is played like Bingo. When play
begins, a music symbol and background color will be called. If the
symbol with the correct color is on the game board, place the mouse
pointer on the symbol and click the left mouse button. If the correct
symbol does not appear on the game board, use your mouse to click
the large button on the left side of your screen labeled New
Selection. A new color and symbol will then be called. Play continues
in this way until you get four in a row or you run out of allowed
selections.
To the left of your screen you will notice the Options. The default
uses both text and voice to call the symbols. If you do not have a
sound card, use only the text option. This will increase program
speed. If you use the voice option, be sure to let the game finish
calling the color and symbol before you click the symbol or the New
Selection button.
One final note: When the number of selections reaches 0, game play
will continue as long as the symbols being called are located on
the game board and clicked. When the game is over, click the
Restart Game button to play again or the Quit Game button to exit.
MUSIC MISSING INSTRUCTIONS:
A mouse is required to play. Play begins with 3 music symbols
displayed on the game grid. Click the large button labeled Remove
Symbol. One of the symbols will disappear. To the left of your
screen, at the top, you will see a list of symbol names. Click the
name of the missing symbol or click on Not Listed if it is not
listed.
If you are incorrect, an X will appear in the box to the left of
your selection and the box to the left of the correct name will
turn gray. Click the large button labeled Try Again. You will get
3 new symbols with which to try again.
If your selection is correct, the box to the left of your selection
will turn gray. Click the large button labeled Next Round. You
will see 4 symbols listed. Repeat the moves given above.
Another symbol will be added to the group each time you make a
correct selection until you reach 8. The game ends when you
correctly select the missing symbol from the group of 8 or you run
out of allowed selections.
Game play will continue past the allowed selections as long as
the correct symbols are chosen. When the game is over, click the
Restart Game button to play again or the Quit Game button to exit.
